Holiday Meeting of Book Club

Hey all -

Hope the month of October is treating you well...

Things have been a touch slow on the blog, so I thought I'd throw out a discussion topic (we can also discuss in person next week at Christina's).

Discussion topic: What to do for December book club?

Questions to answer:

  • What are everyone's thoughts about reading or not reading a book for December?
  • Should we read something that isn't a book (i.e. interesting article or short story)?
  • Whatever we read or don't read, should we still continue with the holiday tradition (2 years and going strong!) of exchanging ornaments?
  • Should we meet at a local establishment or have a host?

FYI - the hosting schedule, as of today, is as follows:

October - Christina
November/December - Sara
January - Ashley
February - HaiVy
March - Brenda
April - Kerstin
May - Sarah
June - Jonell
July - Becky

I think we should just have a little party and a "free read" month. It would be fun to have everyone bring the book they are currently reading and give a brief review and a "must read" or "skip it" type of recommendation. I also liek to givce books at the holidays so this would give me a list to choose from! :) And I think the ornament exchange should go on! It is fun to do it at someone's house so we can just hang out - we could each contribute something to make it easier on the person who hosts it (and even though I am hosting Oct, I would be happy to be the host in Dec.!)

I like Christina's idea about a book to share a review on, good or bad. The ornament exchange is a must. And, I also like the idea of meeting out and about -- swilling some hot chocolate or other hot toddy, relaxing and chatting. Sounds like a holiday event to me!

I am all for a low-key December meeting, too. I love the idea of sharing a book we're currently reading to give others ideas. And yes, the ornament exchange must go on. I am willing to host or meet out and about.

Glad you brought this up HaiVy. One question I have is regarding Nov. book club-- are people going to be around the week after Thanksgiving? I'm guessing the Nov. meeting would end up being the 26, 27 or 28. Depending on everyone's travel plans, would it make sense to read one book for Nov/Dec, as opposed to one for Dec/Jan? Either way, we're taking a bit of a breather around the holidays.

(And I'm all for the ornament exchange.)

I like Sara's idea of having a book for November/December as it probably makes most sense with the holidays.

I'm sure we will discuss more tonight. See you then!

p.s. yay ornament exchange!
