I read the book Atonement a couple years ago in a different book club (gasp, I know! I admit I had a brief fling with some side action), and to this day, it remains one of my favorite books of all time. Of course, I am easily amused and a sucker for anything British, but seriously, it's a good book and if you haven't read it, I highly recommend it!
The inevitable movie adaptation has been completed, and it stars Keira Knightley and cutie James McEvoy, who was just in that Jane Austen movie with Anne Hathaway. More importantly the movie is getting rave reviews in the UK:

The movie opens in the U.S. in December. Hooray!

I feel a little used that HaiVy was in a different book club.; I might not be so keen at yelling at you over our HealthPartners shared cube wall for the rest of the week.
I hope everyone is enjoying the book! I am thanking our ancestors for not thinking tiny feet are sexy...
I think we were in that book club together? I know I read that book... anyway, I remember it being good and I LOVE those actors so it is definitely a must-see for me!
I, too, read Atonement for another book club. Please note: it was before I moved to Minnesota. I loved it, but as I remember, most of the rest of my book club hated it. Atonement was one of the reasons I picked McEwan's book Amsterdam, which I didn't end up liking at all. I suppose it's always good to give an author more than one chance.
I haven't read Atonement, but I actually kind of liked Amsterdam. It is one of those books that has stuck with me.
Ashley - I'll trade you Atonement for A Tree Grows in Brooklyn!
That's a deal! But I get "A Tree Grows" back, right? That's a keeper for my collection.
